There’s a new kid on the fragrance block; introducing solid perfumes, a convenient alternative to traditional liquid and oil scents that perfume lovers can’t get enough of.

But what are solid perfume and solid cologne and how do you use them? Keep reading to find out everything you need to know before pressing ‘add to cart’ on your next perfume purchase.

Solid Perfume: What is it?

Solid perfumes are fragrances in solid form, usually a balm or a paste. Rather than coming in a traditional glass perfume bottle, solid perfume is often sold in a stick, a bit like deodorant.

How is solid perfume made?

Solid perfumes and solid colognes are made by blending fragrant oil with a wax base, making them easy to apply and perfect for handbags or on-the-go applications.

Are solid perfumes better than liquid?

Whether solid perfume is better than liquid depends on personal preference and lifestyle. If you travel often or want a fragrance to take to work, you might opt for a solid option for easy application. With solid fragrances you also don’t need to carry a heavy and fragile bottle that might spill in your bag.

Solid perfumes often come in re-fillable packaging, making it a great option for anyone looking for an eco-friendly alternative to traditional perfumes.

That being said, some people find solid perfumes pack less of a powerful punch than traditional liquid perfumes.

How to choose the right solid fragrance for you

You should take the same approach to picking a solid perfume as you would any other signature scent.

Consider what notes you enjoy most and what smells you find best compliment your natural smell; perhaps you like spicy perfumes or the sweet smell of cherry scents.

Never apply concentrated fragrance directly onto your skin and test any solid perfume a little bit at a time to check that it doesn’t irritate the skin.

How to use solid perfume

Using solid perfume is just as straightforward as using traditional liquid fragrances. Dab or roll the solid perfume stick into your skin and enjoy the nourishment of the balm-like texture and irresistible-smelling scents.

H3: Tips and techniques to get your fragrance to last longer

Sometimes, solid perfumes don’t last as long as regular scents but we have some easy tips and tricks to make solid perfume last longer:

  1. Use a neutral or complimentary scented lotion or moisturiser on clean, dry skin before application.
  2. Apply the solid perfume to your pulse points, such as your wrists, neck or behind the ears for solid cologne.
  3. Keep your solid perfume stick on your person for convenient re-application.

DIY solid perfume

Wondering how to make solid perfume? Making your own solid fragrance can be a fun, affordable and eco-friendly way to enjoy your favourite scents.

First up, find a pot to keep your DIY solid perfume in. Then collect your ingredients, you’ll need; one part wax, 1 to 1.5 parts carrier oil (such as almond or jojoba oil) and a few drops of an essential oil scent (or a mix of a few!).

Melt your wax and mix it with your carrier oil. Next, mix in your favourite smelling essential oils, before leaving to set into a solid perfume stick. Transfer into your chosen container and let it solidify, Now it’s time to enjoy your skin-nourishing solid fragrance!
